The Prometheus Shot : Creativity & Great Work!

Creativity is not a miracle or a magical trait you’re born with… Great Work doesn’t (always) happen by chance.

Einstein, Watt, Picasso, Miyazaki, and others confirm.

These brilliant examples of people performing great acts that appear super-human have amazing lessons: Lessons in knowledge and learning, habits, work, circumstances, cooperation, planning, and execution.

Looking at acts of extreme creativeness is fun and interesting (to some), but it is also something you can gain a lot from…

You can observe the Promethean gift of creative fire, and reflect on what that means to you.

The result – with time – should be more creativity! more worldly wisdom!

This is why the Prometheus Shot is a dose of Creative Inspiration!

(Note: Prometheus is the brother of Atlas)

The Prometheus Shot is a platform dedicated to what we can consider “Great and Creative Work”.

We will look at amazing works of human creativity… We will try to understand what makes them relevant to our own understanding of the world, progress and innovation, appreciation of beauty, and our everyday efforts.

[Check out the Episode List]

We will try to see how that can apply to our daily work and challenges.

The aim is to give the gift of creativity to many who can use it in their everyday work… to create great things.

But also to celebrate creativity and genius… and to reflect on these stories of human achievement.

The Atlas of Worldly Wisdom is about transforming our own work to be more productive and creative, and the Prometheus Shot is about how many great artists/scientists/managers have transformed theirs!

The Prometheus Shot : A dose of Creative Inspiration

Each theme episode is designed to give a perspective on a uniquely important work of creativity: it can be a work of innovation, science, or art.

But we will not try to understand it as specialists of a particular field…

We will try to understand it in terms of what it might mean to us: generalists, trying to do our own great work, and to learn from what others have done.

We all need creativity… but where does it come from? From knowledge, from practice, from richness… also from flexible thinking and by owning a repertoire of symbols (stories, experiences,…) that previous ‘genius creators’ have used before us… these things have moved humanity, so there must be a lot to be learned from observing them..

What does Picasso’s Guernica tell us about work? about management? What does the discovery of the DNA’s helix tell us about creativity? What do Aliens from other worlds have to do with our understanding of the world? with our ability to create the amazing?

Creativity relies on a rich texture of ideas and meanings… and we will try to explore it by going through all these stories and living through the problems tackled.. searching for understanding first, and inspiration later.

But as we do all that, there will be plenty of time to stop and admire some of humanity’s great cultural achievements.. The masters and their environments and their struggles, and how it all connects together… and how it might be relevant to your own work and efforts.

Some History / Mythology : Who is Prometheus?

Prometheus is one of the Titans in ancient Greek mythology. He is the brother of Atlas. His name means “Forethinker” (as opposed to his brother, Epimetheus). He is associated with gifting fire to mortals as Zeus tried to hide it from them.

Prometheus & Atlas – (Museo Gregoriano Etrusco – Vatican Museums, ~ 500BC)

Aeschylus made him not only the bringer of fire and civilization to mortals but also their preserver, giving them all the arts and sciences as well as the means of survival.

I hope this particular virtual Prometheus will reflect these meanings!
